Electromagnetic pollution may be the most significant form of pollution human activity has produced in this century, all the more dangerous because it’s invisible and insensible. —Andrew Weil, MD
EMF or electromagnetic field is a broad term that includes electric fields generated by charged particles, magnetic fields generated by charged particles in motion, and radiated fields such as power lines, metal plumbing, TV, radio, wireless communications, and microwaves. Electric fields are the fields that emanate from anything that has voltage, basically anything electric such as lamps, electrical wiring, outlets, extension cords, electrical appliances, and power outlets. Each can affect the electrical communication in our body, such as brainwaves, or the ability of neurons to fire and communicate. It can also impede inter-cell communication anywhere in the body. Health problems that can manifest as a result of this type of exposure include neurological and behavioral changes, altered cell growth, cell mutations, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and even cancer.
There are plenty of people who are determining that EMFs are the culprit or contributing to their poor health. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has labeled magnetic fields a Class 3 carcinogen, hence cancer causing. These fields can occur when there is an imbalance in electrical wiring and around electrical motors, such as the motor in a refrigerator.
A major source of magnetic fields in a home is a power meter. Electric clock radios can also generate magnetic fields. Fortunately, the effect drops off dramatically with distance. Avoid excessive use of cell phones, cell towers, wireless routers, and cordless phones. Ideally, you would keep cell phones and cordless phones at a distance, and shut off the home’s WiFi and any device, like newer TV set-top boxes, trying to make a wireless connection when not in use. Most of these types of technologies expose us to both electric and magnetic fields. Obviously, removing wired and wireless devices from our spaces may be a challenge in our modern society, especially with technology that tends to be wearable.
Mounting evidence continues to build throughout the integrated healing and medical communities regarding the harmful health effects of EMF exposure. What about the new 5G? Constant and layered exposure to the compounding set of EMF radiation that surrounds us may seriously be compromising our health and preventing us from living in a safe environment. If you are sensitive to EMFs, you may experience symptoms like fatigue; stress and sleep disturbances; skin symptoms, such as facial prickling, burning sensations, and rashes; bodily symptoms such as pains and aches in your muscles; eye symptoms such as burning sensations, foggy thinking and depression; and even cancer. Some people even resort to bed canopies that hang over and around a bed acting like a protective shield against EMFs. We are just beginning to understand the range and depth of health issues caused by EMFs. If you can consciously limit your exposure to EMFs, in the long run your health situation is likely to benefit.
